And the Michelin Star goes to...

And the Michelin Star goes to...

We’re incredibly proud to announce that just seven months after opening its doors in July 2021, The Glenturret Lalique Restaurant is now a one MICHELIN-starred restaurant.

Our Scottish-born Head Chef, Mark Donald, previously held a star at Number One at The Balmoral in Edinburgh before joining The Glenturret. However, the restaurant is the first in-distillery fine dining concept and the very first to be awarded a Michelin star. It means we now join the ranks of only a handful of restaurants in Scotland to hold such an honour.

A shared vision

The restaurant was launched last year with the support of our French owners and crystal house Lalique, who have a history of supporting exceptional fine dining establishments. Their portfolio also includes two MICHELIN-starred Villa René Lalique in Alsace, and one MICHELIN-starred Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey in the region of Bordeaux. Together we set out to create a unique gastronomic experience in the heart of Scotland’s oldest working distillery and a MICHELIN star is a mark of how far we’ve come in such a short amount of time.

A stunning menu

Since the restaurant’s inception, Mark has worked closely with the Managing Director of The Glenturret, John Laurie, and the rest of the distillery team, to take inspiration from the surrounding terroir. Using the finest, hyper-local produce available, dishes on the tasting menu include Tattie scone, winter truffle, Baerii platinum caviar; Langoustine, buttermilk, Daurenki Tsar Impérial; Scallop kedgeree; Dover sole with white asparagus; Sika deer, hay smoked celeriac, sour quince; and Maracaibo millefeuille, green coffee and Glenturret Triple Wood.

Speaking about the MICHELIN achievement, Mark said:

“I am so proud that MICHELIN have acknowledged the hard work, creativity and dedication from my team – and everyone at The Glenturret. Our Scottish heritage and surroundings are vital to the heart and soul of the restaurant.”

Mark Donald, The Glenturret Lalique Restaurant Executive Head Chef

Thanks to our Executive Sommelier, Julien Beltzung, we also have an extensive international wine list to complement Mark’s menus, comprising over 400 bins, with bottles starting from just £39.

“Our restaurant being awarded a Michelin star brings our entire team a great deal of pride. This accomplishment took a huge amount of effort, determination, and resilience; especially to have opened in what was one of the toughest years for the hospitality industry. Moreover, there was no frame of reference for them – this is the first MICHELIN-star restaurant in a distillery anywhere in the world and we are incredibly pleased to have played our part in bringing this title home for Scottish whisky.

Of course, at The Glenturret we are passionate about taste and flavour profiles, in our whiskies and in our food, so as we continue on this journey, I am personally very excited to see what Mark and his team do next.”

John Laurie, The Glenturret Managing Director
