Distillery Director Ian Renwick inducted as Keeper of the Quaich

Ian Renwick, Distillery Director, Keeper of the Quaich

We are delighted to share Distillery Director, Ian Renwick was inducted as a new Keeper of the Quaich at Blair Castle, the ancient and historic home of the Earls and Dukes of Atholl, on Monday 30th March.

The Keepers of the Quaich is an international society which was established by the Scotch Whisky industry to celebrate the outstanding commitment of those involved in the production, promotion and protection of the world’s finest distilled spirit.

With over 30 years of dedicated service, Ian Renwick is the heart and soul of The Glenturret Distillery. Starting his journey as a Production Operator in 1996, Ian’s passion and expertise quickly saw him rise to Production Supervisor in 2000, before taking on the role of Distillery Manager in 2017 and Distillery Director in 2024.

Only a limited number of people are inducted as a Keeper each year to honour those who have made an exceptional contribution in supporting Scotch Whisky. A robust selection process is a fundamental aspect of the Society: potential candidates can only be nominated and seconded by existing Keepers or Masters and they must have been associated with Scotch Whisky for at least seven years.

“Ian’s induction as a Keeper of the Quaich is a truly well-deserved recognition of his exceptional dedication to Scotch whisky and to The Glenturret. His passion, craftsmanship and leadership have been instrumental in shaping the distillery’s success and preserving its heritage.

Over the past three decades, Ian has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to quality and authenticity, earning the respect of colleagues and the wider industry alike. We are incredibly proud to see his contributions honoured in this way, and I look forward to seeing his continued impact on The Glenturret’s future.” Managing Director, John Laurie.

Ian has been instrumental in The Glenturret's evolution, playing a pivotal role in the distillery's rebranding since 2019. He has safeguarded the integrity of The Glenturret's distinctive spirit while re-establishing the distillery as a standalone production site.

From the creation of our New Make Spirit to overseeing warehousing and bottling, Ian ensures every drop of our Single Malt reflects the heritage, quality, and craftsmanship that define The Glenturret.

Ian’s expertise and dedication have earned him industry recognitions, including a “Highly Commended” accolade in the Icons of Whisky Awards in the Distillery Manager of the Year category.

His leadership extends beyond production, mentoring team members and inspiring the entire site with his unwavering commitment and drive. A proud advocate for local craftsmanship, Ian is embedded within the local community and has cultivated strong ties with local partners.

With a wealth of knowledge, Ian continues to shape the future of The Glenturret while honouring its storied past.
