Our Story
A PROUD HERITAGE DATING BACK TO 1775
Established in 1775
as a single malt distillery by John and Hugh Drummond, Glenturret was the first of several distilleries drawn towards the soft and pure waters of Turret Burn in the Perthshire countryside.
The distillery has survived many tough periods in its three centuries, from US Prohibition in the 1920s to the Great Depression of the 1830s.
Nestled in the Perthshire Countryside
From our base at the heart of the Crieff community, with our open-mash tun and Douglas Fir washbacks, we have a genuine reverence for tradition. Although the rest of the whisky world has moved away from the traditional mashing by hand and cutting by eye as vital components of the whisky-making process, we maintain and continue with both these traditions.
At Glenturret, our idea of progress is to stick to what we, Scotland’s oldest working distillery, have always done best, making scotch malt whisky the traditional way. And, when you have a true hand in the outcome, it makes the finished product all that more exceptional.
