]]>The Glenturret Lalique Restaurant now joins its two sister restaurants in France, both also hold two Michelin stars, Lafaurie Peyraguey in Bordeaux and Villa Rene Lalique in Alsace.
Speaking on behalf of the group chairman Silvio Denz said, “The Lalique group views its hospitality arm with equal parts of passion and professionalism, we were filled with a great deal of pride when we heard the news that Michelin had recognised the hard work of Chef Mark Donald and his team. I visit Glenturret often and look forward to my next visit this month, where I can express my congratulations in person.”
Scottish Chef Mark Donald arrived at the restaurant in 2021, the year it opened, and the first Michelin star was awarded just seven months later. It was the first restaurant inside a distillery to achieve Michelin recognition. Other awards and recognition followed for Chef Mark and his team, and last night, they received the coveted two Michelin stars, one of only two restaurants in Scotland to hold the honour and the first to be recognised in eighteen years.
Commenting, Mark said, “This is an ecstatic moment for us; we are all thrilled to have been awarded a second Michelin star. I am indebted to my team; I am not an island. We achieved this together. I am happy too that Scotland is getting the recognition it deserves as a gastronomic destination.”
The Glenturret Lalique Restaurant tells a story of the land and its surroundings. Chef Mark captures the essence of the distillery in his menus with nods to the distillation process cleverly woven into his cuisine. Located in Crieff, at the foothills of the Scottish Highlands, Mark and his team enjoy the benefits of Scotland's larder on their doorstep, working directly with artisanal growers, producers, breeders and fishers, often foraging themselves.
The Glenturret MD John Laurie commented, “We are all extremely proud of Chef Mark Donald and his team. Their connection and understanding of whisky-making can be seen throughout the menu, and the team's dedication to excellence has been rewarded. Two stars is a difficult recognition to achieve, and for Mark Donald and his team to get there in just 2 ½ years is incredible. Scottish Gastronomy has always had a rare quality, an amazing natural larder and talented chefs that have all too often gone unnoticed. Global recognition of Scottish cuisine is starting to change, and Mark Donald is a strong figure in that movement. The entire Glenturret Lalique family is fully behind him and celebrates their well-deserved recognition.”
The intimate restaurant overlooks the clear waters of the River Turret and the historic distillery buildings. The room features two gold-lustre crystal Champs-Élysées chandeliers and hosts 26 guests. It is open for dinner (tasting menu) from Wednesday to Saturday. The kitchen also serves an à la carte lunch menu on the same days at the Lalique Bar.

We work towards preserving the life cycle of our casks by recycling our wood where possible, thus extending the average length of time that a cask can be used, something as whisky distillers we have practiced for many generations.

James Turrell, renowned for his work with light and space, celebrated his 80th birthday earlier this year. To mark this significant milestone and pay homage to generations of craftspeople, Turrell collaborated with The Glenturret and Lalique to design his first-ever whisky decanter – Eight Decades - limited to only 80 decanters worldwide. The unique design of the decanter, featuring a pared-down silhouette crowned by a pyramidal deep blue crystal stopper inspired by Ancient Egypt, resonated with whisky collectors and art enthusiasts alike during the auction.
The lot included proof decanter #008, filled with a specially crafted whisky by Whisky Maker Bob Dalgarno, along with three hand-signed sketches by James Turrell from the decanter's design phase. The winning bidder will also enjoy an exclusive visit to Lalique's factory in Alsace and The Glenturret Distillery, culminating in a dining experience at the Michelin-starred The Glenturret Lalique Restaurant.
“What a way to end the year! When we first launched Eight Decades in May, we knew it was a very special decanter – working with James Turrell was truly an honour. We feel the decanter blurs the lines between art and whisky, and the auction result is testament to that. We’re particularly happy with the result as all proceeds are going to charity.”

We are delighted to reveal that our Project Manager and Sustainability Superstar, Lucy Armstrong, was recognised as the "Sustainability Officer of the Year".
Lucy has been leading our efforts towards a more sustainable future, and we couldn't be prouder of Lucy's work. On behalf of the distillery a huge congratulations to Lucy and the green team ⭐️
The Glenturret was also Highly Commended in the category "Craft Producer of the Year."
“The Whisky Magazine Awards is an opportunity for us to review the successes of the Scotch whisky industry over the past year, and the strong crop of entries to both the Icons of Whisky and World Whiskies Awards shows that producers are continuing to push themselves and their whiskies to new heights, in spite of ongoing challenges in the global marketplace. The awards also serve as a bellwether, highlighting movements or trends in the industry – in Scotland, the ever-more innovative methods being adopted to achieve sustainable production and distillers’ experiments with grain whisky could prove particularly interesting areas to watch.” Bethany Brown, editor of Whisky Magazine and chair of judges for the Icons of Whisky."

]]>Crafted by Distillery Manager Ian Renwick, and building on the resounding success of Editions No. 1 and No. 2 – which sold out within days of their release – The Glenturret Manager's Dram: Release No. 3 is a thoughtful blend of peated and non-peated whiskies, aged in a harmonious marriage of European and American oak sherry casks, as well as American bourbon barrels.
The careful maturation process spanning many years brings out the harmonious blend of sweetness and smoke, resulting in a non-chill-filtered whisky with a slightly reduced strength at 47% ABV, to truly savour the resulting whisky’s rich flavours. Delicate wood smoke opens to embrace citrus fruits and vanilla, mingling with creamy caramel, concentrated dark fruits, and rich dark chocolate. Warm, reassuring sweet smoke envelopes blood red oranges, citrus, and vanilla notes, leading to a long smooth finish.
The Manager’s Dram series was created in 2021 and pays homage to the highly skilled, wider team working at The Glenturret, who are integral to the distillery’s ongoing success. Respecting the traditional values and skills which have been passed down through the decades, from generation to generation, has always been at the core of The Glenturret; Manager’s Dram celebrates and honours these custodians.
Ian Renwick, Distillery Manager at The Glenturret, expressed his enthusiasm for the final edition, stating that
“Presenting the 3rd release of Manager's Dram – the final edition of my quest to introduce smoky delights to traditional non-peat drinkers – is a very exciting moment. We’re still humbled by the success of the first two editions and of course hope that this last edition will be received just as well! I consider myself very lucky to be working with such an incredible team here at The Glenturret – every single one of them is a custodian of the skills required to make The Glenturret whisky, and to ensure that the footprint and philosophy of the distillery will always be honoured. We call this series Manager’s Dram, but it’s yours to enjoy!"
The Glenturret Manager’s Dram: Release No. 3 is limited to just 750 bottles and is now available for £175 per bottle exclusively from the distillery gift shop.
Tasting Notes: Delicate WOOD SMOKE opens to embrace CITRUS FRUITS and VANILLA, mingling with a CREAMY CARAMEL, concentrated DARK FRUITS and rich DARK CHOCOLATE. Warm, reassuring SWEET SMOKE envelopes BLOOD RED ORANGES, CITRUS and VANILLA notes, leading to a long smooth finish.

On the nose, this single malt is reminiscent of sweet ginger and cinnamon, with lovely added notes of creamy vanilla and honeycomb. On the palate, it is bursting with flavours of dark fruits and warm wood spices, whilst sweet ginger and apples dusted with cinnamon linger on for a long and enjoyable finish. The combination of European and American oak adds depth and texture to the overall mouthfeel, creating a perfect harmony for a truly memorable dram.
As is the tradition of the series, each of the 750 bottles is meticulously hand-numbered, further amplifying the range's exclusivity and distinction. The trilogy, which serves as a homage to the beautiful landscape of the Perthshire region, will be closing the series with a last instalment as we take things to new heights in 2024, continuing our iconic Scottish brand partnership.
“We have continued to work hard with The Glenturret to create a special single malt that beautifully concludes and celebrates the trilogy. Following on from the triumph of the initial two releases, our aim was to carry on the tradition of crafting a whisky that captures the magic and comfort of the two brands. This particular expression serves as a tribute to the rich heritage and natural beauty in our surroundings, inviting individuals to experience the warm essence of our land and culture, be it at The Gleneagles' American Bar or from the comfort of their own homes.” Daniel Baernreuther, General Manager at The Gleneagles
This limited edition will be exclusively available to purchase for Gleneagles Hotel resident guests at The Still Room (RRP £125). ]]>In 2019 we embarked on a project that looked at our entire production process and ways in which we could save energy, water, and reduce waste whilst retaining our fully manual operation and spirit quality. Reviewing the design of our process allowed us to identify several opportunities to make sustainable changes to our whisky-making.
We performed yeast trials, analysed distillation runs, and mapped esters in our spirit for many months as part of our review and to ensure that we retained notable and important characteristics that form our distillery footprint following the planned improvements.
On the 31st of January 2022, following years of preparation, work began on the distillery’s sustainable upgrades, the most significant works to take place at The Glenturret in over 30 years of single malt production.
Following an initial investment of £1.4m and a production shutdown of 5 months, commissioning of the new upgrades began on the 27th of June 2022 with no waste being sent to landfill during the project.
The Mash House
Our process review identified that although our previous Mash Tun was efficient in extracting sugars, it was recognised that its manual design had several limiting factors.
The process was far from energy efficient. It required high volumes of water and created unnecessarily high levels of waste. Mashing was incredibly labour-intensive for our team, and it also limited our ability to process certain types of malt. With this in mind, the decision was made to replace our Mash Tun and Heat Exchanger.
Our new semi lauter Mash Tun now has a capacity of 1.95 Tonnes and as we recognise the skills and experience of our team to be our most important asset, we have worked closely with our designers to ensure that our operators continue to have full control over all of the mashing stages.
Since commissioning began, we have recorded a 28% reduction in process water usage which equates to 1,000,000 litres of water saved per year.
The new Mash Tun has also reduced process waste by 1,000 tonnes per year. The changes to our Mash House have importantly allowed us to utilise our Tun Room to its maximum potential and to run more efficiently. We now fill each of our washbacks with an extra 25% volume at an increase of 53.8% litres of alcohol per washback.
The Still House
We recognise that distilling is a very energy intensive area of our production, and we subsequently spent a lot of time in our review process looking at ways in which we could make this area more efficient and reduce our energy consumption. In order to achieve this, we made changes to our process in two areas.
Firstly, we identified that the 40 years old design of the heating systems within both our stills could be vastly improved with simple, efficient, easy to clean radiators that would deliver much larger surface area giving a quick and consistent transfer of heat.
Secondly, we developed a preheating system for our Wash Still, the first of our two distillations, that would use the heat from the waste of previous distillations to preheat the wash before it is distilled. Our first distillation requires us to heat the wash to over 90°C. Before installing preheating, the starting temperature of our wash would typically be around 25°C.
With preheating now in place, we can achieve a starting wash temperature of above 75°C meaning that we have much less heating required to achieve over 90°C and we have subsequently reduced our heating time requirements by 30 minutes for every Wash Still distillation.
The preheating and internal heating system upgrades in addition to the Mash House improvements have played an integral part in reducing overall annual production energy usage by 27%.

The IWSC judges agreed;
"The brand understands the importance of evolving processes to make them more efficient whilst retaining their traditional values and their ‘By Hand and Heart’ ethos.
While tradition and heritage are important, the ability to innovate and experiment makes The Glenturret stand out. Our judges believe that The Glenturret is very deserving of this trophy and recognition should be given to the team revitalising and rejuvenating the traditional brand, whilst always staying true to producing credible Scotch Whisky.
The judges also praised The Glenturret’s holistic approach to their sustainability efforts. The creation of a ‘Green Team’ has made sure the brand is held accountable for its work towards sustainable and ethical business decisions.
With core values of accountability, respect, integrity, teamwork, success, customer focus and people, we demonstrate that employees are at the heart of our business and imperative to achieve our mission. Sustainability remains our priority, with employees at the centre, allowing effective action and implementation.”
The Glenturret Lalique Restaurant, is the first in-distillery fine dining concept to receive a Michelin Star globally, this accolade greatly impressed our judges, demonstrating that The Glenturret’s efforts go outside of just Scotch Whisky, showing the perfect marriage between gastronomy and Scotch.
Managing Director John Laurie said "We are honoured to have received the Scotch Whisky Producer trophy from the IWSC, highlighting The Glenturret and Crieff on the global stage. Respecting the traditional values and skills that have been passed down through the decades has always been the focus at The Glenturret however whether you are beginning your whisky journey or continuing it, our team thrives on offering the best Scottish experience."
A huge well done and a big thank you to our Glenturret team.

This one-off set of four unique whiskies, inspired by the distillery's long and illustrious past, has been crafted exclusively for the prestigious Distillers One of One Charity Auction. The Glenturret returned to the auction as a Founder Member for the second time and its remarkable lot captivated the global whisky community - collectors and enthusiasts - with its distinctive blend of heritage, craftsmanship, and exclusivity.
The whiskies, crafted by Whisky Maker Bob Dalgarno, are housed in four beautiful crystal Lalique decanters using a vintage mould from the 1980s and each represent a key moment in The Glenturret’s 260-year-old history. To depict these key moments, each decanter has been sandblasted with an image created by Glasgow-based artist Kirstin Burnet.
Decanter No.1 features an image referring to the period between 1763 and 1820, a time when the first record of The Glenturret was found in a rental document dating back to 1763, confirming The Glenturret as Scotland’s Oldest Working Distillery.
Tasting Notes: RIPE PINEAPPLE, aromatic with CINNAMON sweetness, TROPICAL FRUITs lead with SWEET VANILLA and WOOD SPICES, mouth coating, maturing OAK shows later flowing through to a CREAMY, FRUITY finish.
Decanter No.2 shows an image of the distillery and River Turret, which has always provided the distillery with an unparalleled source of water; it is the year 1821 to 1880 when new owners re-named the distillery “The Hosh” and announced the arrival of its whisky in London.
Tasting Notes: TOFFEE APPLES and CITRUS FRUITS, the aromatic thread continues, touches of TOASTED OAK combine with DRIED FRUIT, GINGER, CINNAMON and MARSHMALLOW, leading to a complex, warm finish.
Decanter No.3 focuses on the years 1881 to 1960, a time that was marked by prohibition as well as a new owner at The Glenturret Distillery: James Fairlie, who had the vision to bring back the distillery to live after it had fallen silent for more than 30 years. His ambition to ‘preserve the traditional methods of distilling and to grow the appreciation for whisky’ still is one of the core pillars of The Glenturret’s philosophy today.
Tasting Notes: SYRUP SPONGE, soft sweet notes reminiscent of SHERRY at Christmas, slight hints of CLOVE and CINNAMON. DRIED FRUITS and GENTLE WOOD SPICES dance on the palate, leaving a rich but slightly dry finish.
Decanter No.4 looks at the period between 1961 and 2020, which saw the distillery become one of the first and most popular destinations for visitors from across the world, including key politicians and British Royalty.
Tasting Notes: RICH DRIED FRUIT, warm sweet notes from RAISINS and DATES, subtle notes of mature OAK balanced with CINNAMON and NUTMEG. LIQUORICE and ANISEED make a brief appearance before a rich finish of WOOD SPICES.
“We’re very proud to be returning to The Distillers One of One Auction as a Founder Member. This incredible initiative has already improved the lives and opportunities of young people around Scotland, proving that every pound raised is being put to exceptional use. We’re also very proud of our lot this year – ‘Enduring Spirit’ tells the key stories that have formed our brands’ history over the past four centuries, and have brought us to where we are today. It took a little longer than planned to finish the four crystal decanters, due to the incredible craftsmanship that goes into creating each of them, but the result was well worth the wait!” John Laurie, Managing Director at The Glenturret
The set of decanters comes in a beautiful, bespoke presentation trunk created and handmade by renowned Scottish design studio and workshop, Method Studio. The trunk is crafted from poplar wood and Scottish leather, and detailed with thick hand-stitched bridle leather, oiled Scottish oak, and gold. Its painstaking construction draws on traditional trunkmaking techniques, as well as Method’s unique own in-house style, and was built at their secluded workshop, in the thickly wooded hills above Linlithgow in Scotland.
The winning bidder also receives an exclusive invitation to The Glenturret Distillery, where they can savour a sensational gastronomic experience led by Head Chef Mark Donald at the Michelin-starred Glenturret Lalique Restaurant.
The Distillers One of One Auction, hosted in partnership with Sotheby’s, will take place at Hopetoun House on the 5th of October 2023. The proceeds from this remarkable auction will be donated to The Distillers’ Charity, principally to the Youth Action Fund, dedicated to transforming the lives of young people in Scotland.

]]>This year’s annual release continues to showcase our distillery’s distinctive fruity spirit style amidst the ever-evolving canvas of maturing wood characters, with a range of new 2023 whiskies. For the first time, a 35 Years Old expression joins the range, created from a single European Oak sherry butt chosen for its unusually complex personality.
The first five whiskies in the 2023 core collection are made up of Triple Wood (the Triple Wood 2022 Collection won best Scotch Whisky in the world at the IWSC this March), the 7 Years Old Peat Smoked, 10 Years Old Peat Smoked, 12 Years Old and 15 Years Old.
Joining the five new expressions in the 2023 collection are three rare single malts that are being released in highly limited numbers. The first is the 25 Years Old, which has fast become a collector’s item since it first launched in 2020. This expression was created from six casks stowed in The Glenturret’s traditional Dunnage warehouses for a quarter of a century. European oak brings rich fruit, aromatic spices and oak notes; American oak adds sweetness and vanilla with refill casks offering touches of citrus. Only 210 bottles will be available worldwide.
The Glenturret 30 Years Old, limited to 500 bottles, is derived from a search for specific flavours which were found in five precious older casks. The European oak cask imparts a traditional rich fruit flavour combined with hints of brandy and ginger, while a port pipe imbues a warm ruby hue and touches of red fruits. Sweeter notes of tropical fruit salad and bananas are inspired by the character of The Glenturret’s delicate new make spirit added by two American oak hogsheads.
The final and completely new expression in the 2023 release is a spectacular 35 Years Old, with just 185 bottles available. The liquid is derived from a single European Oak sherry butt, chosen for its unusually complex personality. Alongside the expected traditional character of dried fruits, spices and oak sits notes of tropical fruit and vanilla more commonly derived from American Oak. Three and half decades of quiet maturation have cultivated a whisky which is multifaceted yet refined.
Speaking about the creation of the 2023 release, The Glenturret’s Managing Director John Laurie said:
“Bob Dalgarno and our expert team have once more excelled on every level in creating the 2023 Core Collection. The passion, time and energy that has gone into each of the exceptional expressions they have created is something that myself, and our whole team at the distillery are incredibly proud of. We release a new collection each year, trying to create something special each year, so hopefully our customers will enjoy the new 2023 Collection as much as we do!”
The new Glenturret range will be available at select retailers & distributors and online from Tuesday 11th July, 10am.
The Extremely Scarce collection (25 Years Old, 30 Years Old and the new 35 Years Old) will be available for pre-order sales, with bottles available for delivery in late summer.
]]>In 2023, we partnered with Greenly to measure and verify our emissions backdated to 2020, the first full year of operating under our current ownership structure. Accurately measuring our emissions across scopes 1, 2 and 3 according to the Greenhouse Gas Protocol or Ademe methodology, allows us to build a deep carbon reduction plan aligned with our Net Zero targets.
Carbon reductions will take time; however, it is something that we are seriously committed to and being transparent around our emissions and our plans to improve forms a crucial part of our sustainability strategy.

Inside, the whisky has been meticulously selected by The Glenturret’s renowned Whisky Maker Bob Dalgarno, and has been drawn from eight casks, ranging from 1987 through to 1998, each representing a different decade in James Turrell’s life.
"Aromas of dark dried fruit, chocolate orange, ginger cake, red berries, fresh apples, and softer oak on the nose and on the palate, gentle wood spices, rich fruit cake laced with treacle and honeycomb balanced with burnished oak provide a long, mellow finish."
